CALL TO ACTION: TxDOT needs your input! Have you investigated the results of the 1826 Feasibility study? Do you have any questions or concerns? Please attend these meetings!
TxDOT is in the process of a Feasibility Study of RM 1826 to plan for future traffic, safety and mobility needs. Their next public meeting is June 25th.
The Driftwood Historical Conservation Society (DHCS) was formed as a response to TxDOT and Hays County wanting to expand RM 150 to a 4-lane road that would cut through the heart of historic downtown Driftwood. Neighbors joined neighbors in the stand to preserve Driftwood as a set aside area of historical significance and rural beauty. As a result, Hays County and City of Dripping Transportation plans were changed to ensure RM 150 remained a single lane thoroughfare and RM 1826 was not extended further into the hill country. In fact, members of the DHCS have worked hand in hand with county officials since this time to further ensure the rural integrity of road improvements in the Driftwood area.
As development continues to encroach upon the Driftwood area, the expansion and widening of 1826 is an upcoming reality. While improving safety through proper turn lanes and calming traffic are of paramount concern, the DHCS hopes to balance the demands of growth while maintaining the rural beauty of the area we all call home. The DHCS has identified several opportunities for improvement within the 1826 Study. We look forward to hearing the counter to these concerns in the upcoming public meeting.
